A Summer of Festivals

It’s been a busy summer for our Liquid Bioresources team. As the sun came out, so people flocked to festivals across the region.

Glastonbury Festival is one of the world’s biggest live music events, attended by more than 175,000 people. Over the course of a four-week period, we treated around 8,000,000 litres of its waste at our zero waste to landfill treatment centres across a number of local sites.

We were thrilled to be able to help the Festival in its commitment to enhancing the environment through its operations wherever possible. Through our innovative and sustainable processes, all of this waste was given a new lease of life, being transformed into renewable energy and agricultural fertiliser.

Our Bioresources Technician, Samantha, from the Bristol Treatment Centre, got even more hands on, volunteering for Water Aid by being part of the toilet cleaning team! Samantha said: “Water Aid is a charity whose aims and goals I believe in. Although cleaning toilets in a muddy field would not have been my first choice of job there, it was something that was in the end a very rewarding experience.”

As in other years, we also treated waste from a number of other events, such as the Larmer Tree Festival and the Bournemouth 7’s sporting weekend.
